How Small Conversations Are Building BIG Community!

What does it take to truly understand a community's needs? Well, sometimes, it starts with a glass of wine, a few good appetizers, and an honest conversation!
This spring, Community Catalysts took a more intentional step toward connection by hosting a series of four small-group gatherings right here at our Grand River Avenue office. Each evening brought together guests (neighbors, colleagues, friends, and community members) for something simple but meaningful: a chance to step inside, hear our stories, ask some questions, and leave with a clearer picture of who we are and why this work matters.

The response has been incredible, and the energy these meetings reminded us of something we already know to be true: people in Livingston County care deeply about housing.
They just don't always have a place to talk about it.
Why These Conversations Matter
The housing challenge in Livingston County is real, and it's urgent. The median home price in our county has climbed to around $385,000, pricing out many of the working families, young couples, and individuals who make this community thrive.
Statewide, Michigan's housing availability rate sits at just 1.8% — far below the 5% considered healthy for a balanced market. Starter homes, in particular, have become increasingly scarce, leaving a widening gap between the community we have and the one we want to be.
Community Catalysts exists to help close that gap through building, rehabbing, and preserving quality, attainable housing right here in Livingston County. But that work only goes as far as the community behind it.

These office gatherings were open to the public and free to attend. Anyone who wanted to learn more, ask questions, or just see the faces behind the mission was welcome, and we hope that spirit of openness carries forward even as this particular series wraps up.
